A week in review and other things too!

Training:
*  I've been taking it pretty easy this week with my runs, which has been nice.  However, I am really looking forward to doing a long run this weekend!  It was been too long since I've gone long and I'm itching to get out there!  It's going to be cold, but I got some new winter stuff that I think will help me get over my "cold wussiness!"

Check out these awesome Saucony gloves I found!  They are the Ulti-Mitt II [HERE].
**Note:  I bought these gloves myself and this review is based on my own opinions.  I was  not paid by Saucony to review these gloves (Although, Saucony, if you want to send me free stuff to review...I'd be happy to test out your awesome products!) :)

At first glance, they look like ordinary gloves, right?  But, what happens if the wind starts picking up and it gets really cold?  Usually, my fingers still end up going numb, even with gloves on.  But, these gloves have a secret weapon.

Hidden wind mitts!!  They tuck into this little pouch when you don't need them.  But, when the wind comes out...voila!  You have the ultimate protection!  I LOVE these gloves.  And, do you notice the little black cloth area??  Perfect for wiping dripping snot from your nose.  You know it happens, and you know you do it too!!  :)
Oh, but that's not all they have!

They also have these nifty little holes, that you can take your thumb and index finger out to easily tear open a gel, gu, sport beans, or whatever!  How awesome is that?
AND, do you see that little light by my wrist?  It comes with a little mini clip on light that you can put wherever you want to be more visible.  It  has a solid and flashing option.
Again, these gloves ROCK!  They are a little pricey, but for me, it was totally worth it to be comfortable in the cold and wind.

*  Long run help!!!  I'm still trying to figure out how I want to do my long runs from now until my marathon.  I basically have 4 weekends of long runs left (the marathon is on Jan. 16th).  So, I'm thinking of doing 20, 18, 16, then 10.  I know a 20 miler this weekend is probably not the best idea since I haven't run long in awhile.  But, I kind of feel like I need to do it-ya know?  What do you all think?  What would you do?  How would you do your long runs from this point on?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Other Things Too:
*  Jill at Run With Jill set up an amazing holiday blogger gift exchange this year!  Thanks again Jill...you ROCK!  I was so excited when I opened my mail box yesterday and saw a shiny red envelope addressed to me!!
I opened it right away, and this is what I found:

Jason at Life Of An Aspiring Triathlete sent me such fun things!  Two cute little books, and an awesome Christmas ornament, which I put on my tree right away!  Thanks Jason!!! :)

*  KONA is on tomorrow!  Who else is going to be glued to their TVs tomorrow??  I will be on my couch with a box of Kleenex by my side.  I don't know what it is about watching that race, but I am always in tears pretty much throughout the entire program!

*  I cannot believe this is only 1 week left until Christmas!!  I am sooo glad that I have all of my Christmas shopping done!  I've been out running errands and everywhere I go, it is a complete zoo!!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!  :)

Love the gloves. I need to tell Santa:)
About the runs.
I'd do a 20 miler this weekend but v slow, and with walk breaks if you need to. You want to build endurance first. I would do another 20 miler the following week with the first 10 miler comfortably easy and the next 10 at or close to marathon pace. I would next do a 15-17 run with last 5-7 at MP or faster, and than I would do a 13-15 with last 3-5 at MP. You were sick and took time off, so your body is rested. You'll need less taper than typical as a result.

Love the gloves! I would run 16-18 miles this weekend nice and slow, then 20 next weekend when you can run a little faster to build confidence for the race. Then 16 and 10.

Love the gloves!

I would do 18,20,16,10 but I have only done 1 marathon so I don't have a lot of experience.

Also I can't wait to hear about the race because I am thinking about doing that one in 2012

Awesome gloves!! I'm so glad that you're feeling better! Have a great run this weekend - sorry I have no advice to give on that!

When I do my long runs my goal is as much time on my legs as possible. Never to run a good time for the long run. This way I get more long runs done easily as recovery is quick.

Great week! In terms of the training run, maybe two days in a row of a medium length run, i.e. 10 and 10 instead of one big 20 miler this week?

DRog said...

no worries on going long you still have the base and now that you are on the upswinng of your cold you can get it done. You have PERFECT timeframe before RnR - including this weekend 4 more - so 3 chances for a LONG run then one chance for a nice 8 miler or something the wknd befre Rn R - PERFECT

cant believe you guys have no snow and its mid 40's today? we are F r e e z i n g IN MN

I'm so glad to see a review for those gloves. I've been looking at them, but waffling. They're truly warm?

Love the gloves. I'm looking for another pair with a windshield but haven't been sold on anything yet. These would be great!
Good luck with your long run. Remember, anything longer than your last is progress.

LOVE the disclosure you put up there to Saucony - I hope they send you some stuff! Happy Holidays!

Ha at first when you said you FOUND the gloves I was like, "THAT LUCKY DOG! I never FIND anything that cool!!" Then of course I kept reading and see that you meant found, like at the store. I am not sure what all of this says about me. Those are sweet by the way. Cool gift too!

Those gloves are really cool. I like the fact that my bike gloves have the same - drippy nose = soft chamois on gloves.

Jill said...

First, I have to comment on the gift, of course. Red sparkly packaging?? AWESOME!!! I'm all about the bling! And that ornamet is so cool, I'm going to have to ask Jason where he got that. think that may be pretty cool hanging on the rear view mirror after the holidays, perhaps? Or on a dresser knob. Oh the possibilities. The little books are really cute, too!

Ok, those gloves are really great - my figers freeze all the time, even with fleece gloves.

As for long runs, sorry I didn't get on earlier this weekend to check out your post but with 4 left, not sure how far you ran today but if you do a 3 week taper, your schedule looks good, but you could do a 2 week taper and do another 20 on the 1st. Just a suggestion, either is fine.

I'm headed to Manitou with the XC kiddos on Tuesday to run the Incline, but if another day works to get together for a run, give me a shout. The week after xmas works, too. FUN!!!

Kona coverage gets better each year, and with High Def now the images are amazing. Something about Trautwig's narration almost makes it worth waiting the 2 1/2 months to see it on cable. He's becoming what Phil Liggett is to the Tour de France.

Those gloves look awesome! I need some like them...my fingers froze yesterday when I went for a run.

Those gloves are kick ass!

I wish I had some advice for your run. Sadly, I have never run a marathon...yet, so can't help you. I am sure someone here was able to though.

glad you are feeling better.
