Training:
* There are only 10 days left until my first marathon! Where did the time go? I'm getting really excited about it and am just ready to GO! :)
* Because this is a taper week, my runs have been pretty low key. Today I decided to take my youngest on a short 3M run in the jogging stroller along the Highline canal. This was the first time that I've actually pushed the jogger with only him in it and what a difference one less kid makes! I mean, it was still an entire body workout, but it was so nice to only be pushing ~50lbs(stroller+ kid weight) instead of ~100lbs! I stopped along the route to let him watch some water fountains, tractors, and other stuff. It was actually a really fun time!
* I know this doesn't really have anything to do with training, but here is a picture I took along the trail. Notice the white stuff on top of the mountains? Yep, that is snow. The mountains got their first dusting of it last night! Yikes!
Everyone chant with me: Snow, snow, stay away, don't come till November yay! (I know that's lame, but I wanted it to rhyme..ha ha) I really am not ready for snow yet. We are finally getting fall like temperatures and it is so nice.
Other Things Too:
* Now, I am not a huge beer fan, and actually don't really drink much alcohol at all. I like a glass of wine (or two) with dinner on occassion, but really I'm fine without it. But, my husband came across this beer and I have to say that I really like it! It is just a really nice, drinkable beer. Plus, how cute is the labeling? :) If you see it in the store, check it out and let me know what you think about it!
* Tonight is Parent's Night Out at my son's preschool. They actually let siblings go too, so my husband and I are dropping off the boys and going out on a date! Woohoo! It's been awhile since we've had a date, so it's going to be nice to spend some quality time together.
* I'm so excited because my mom, sister, her boys, and her husband are coming up next week for a visit! My sister was originally going to run the marathon with me, but because of the crazy heat in AZ, it's been hard for her to train for the full. So, she's coming out to do the 1/2 instead! Yay! I can't wait till they get here! She has two boys too (1 1/2 & 3), so our house is going to be a mad house for a couple of days with four boys 5 and under all running around! But, it will be sooo much fun! :)
* I know this may sound crazy, but I really want a dehydrator. At first I thought they were silly appliances. I mean, who would take the time to dehydrate fruit when you can buy it in the store?? But, the stuff in the store is expensive and full of ingredients that I can't even pronounce! Plus, now that my boys are in school, I have been trying to give them healthy things in their lunches. Being able to make homemade fruit roll-ups and dried fruit would just be awesome!
I've been doing some research and asked Amber at Almost Vegan what she uses and she recommended the Excalibur. It got pretty good reviews on amazon, but I'm still having a hard time coughing up the money to get it. Maybe Santa will get me one for Christmas this year! :)
Alrighty, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
I know there are some of you racing this weekend, so GOOD LUCK! :)
Oh yeah, and I am so excited about Kona tomorrow and can't wait to see who wins!

YAY for 10 days!!
This is awesome!!
Dehydrators are a great thing to have! I love making my own apple chips, banana chips, etc.
Thanks for the Punk'n beer suggestion. I've been trying to find a good pumpkin beer lately and haven't found one.
Countdown is on! Good luck!
I've had my eye on an Excalibur for quite some time, now. Check out ebay ~ you can get scratch and dent ones directly from the company (with the warranty) for a heck of a lot cheaper!
I want a dehydrater, too. It's not weird.
Wow 10 days! Eek! Fun about the Date night. Jesse and I are using Portland as a date weekend almost! Have fun!
Woo-hoo!! Enjoy the taper1!
We just got the Nesco American Harvest, dehydrating some apples right now. We heard good things about it from my wife's aunts.
I find most beers to be very drinkable. good luck with the taper
You're totally ready for the marathon, enjoy the taper!
Eek snow =). I've heard the NW is in for a particularly rainy rainy season---not sure what that means since I'd say we got an awful lot last year too.
My hubby is a beer freak but oddly, he's not a huge fan of pumpkin beers---however, if I see punk'n in the stores, I'm buying! (He'll be so proud)
10 days and counting...and snow in our mountains...it won't be long til it's down here.
I am SO not ready for snow and cold. Actually, I never am. Definately excited about the race tomorrow :)
Have a wonderful night out with your husband!
I will chant with you!!! Snow, snow, stay away, don't come till November yay! I went for what was suppose to be an 8 mile run the other night, forgot how early it's getting dark and had to quit(not that I wasn't ready) at 6 because it was getting so dark and I was not in a place I wanted to run in the dark.
Enjoy the taper!
Only 10 days! YAY!!
Have a great date night tonight!!
Should be fun weekend either way. If we're not racing we can follow Kona.
I was waking to work today I couldn't get over how pretty the mountains were...but I agree with you about snow staying away, no thanks!
10 days is going to fly. :)
Eeek... if you are 10 days away, so am I! :) Your run looks way prettier than mine though... we don't have the mountains.
And I love that the preschool is doing parents night out. Enjoy the date!
Wow, that's twice in one day that I heard about a dehydrator. I didn't even know what they were yesterday.
Enjoy the taper. Personally, I find them very frustrating. I'm calling last week my taper week even though I have 4 more to go.
you ARE ready to go!~ excited for you do do your marathon! you will have a great run
Derek
I did the chant for you! Hope it really works. I'm so excited for you as you get ready to do your first marathon. Will you run with music?? Also, I can't wait to see if you think a 1/2 iron or a marathon is harder.
So you like the Pumpkin flavored brew?? I have been seeing many varieties of Pumpkin beers popping up lately but never been brave enough to buy it. Sending you good tapering vibes. You are gonna have a great marathon.
So close now! Keep that chilling going.
<9 more days now!
::Sigh:: What gorgeous mountains.
I do hope "Santa" gets you a dehydrator! :P It really will save you money in the long run, on so many things. Dried fruit is a natural use for it, and it's also especially great for making crackers. I love that it's so low-maintenance - no preheating, no strict amounts of time to "bake" things for. You can leave it on for hours and hours, and it only costs like 5 cents per hour to run. And if you accidentally leave something in there for an extra hour or two, it's really not a big deal! Worse comes to worst, you brush a little water on whatever it is just enough to REhydrate it. :)
I hope you had a great date night!
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Goodluck on your race. I will be sending you positive vibes on the day. As for the food dehydrator - I think they are a great idea and have often pondered getting one myself. Maybe if we cross our fingers and toes we will get one for chrissy.
I hope you have a great taper! I love your rhyme but I don't want snow either! I will look for the awesome lookin' beer!
I love my dehydrator! I hope you had a great relaxing evening with your hubby!!
Holy cow, your race is coming right up! Taper smartly!
I have a dehydrator and love love love it. It isn't crazy. I dehydrated my grape tomatoes (I had A LOT) this year and they are like candy. SO GOOD!
Good luck with the marathon, although I am sure I will have time to tell you that again!
i had pumpkin ale last night, it was goooooood!
My son and I got some samples of Funkey Monkey (http://www.funkymonkeysnacks.com/) freeze dried fruit at some street fair recently. It was good and there are no other ingredients in it other than the fruit. granted, I don't know how much it costs, but worth looking into.
The next week will fly by! I can't wait to read about your marathon experience.
Thanks for the GL you left at my blog.
Not sure if you have it out there, but look for Dogfish Head Punkin ale. It is the BEST pumpkin spiced beer I have EVER had!
Good luck during this last week and half before the marathon!
Hi Aimee,
OMG! Less than a week before M Day!! Enjoy the taper and relax. Seriously, just relax and get as much rest as possible. I am so excited for you! I know that you are going to do so well and will surprise yourself:) You just wait and see! You will become hooked too:) Take care Aimee and have a great week!
Love the look of that beer!! I'm sure it tastes good too! Good luck on your marathon!
you know i got a dehydrator...and have to say I've barely used it!
Try Brooklyn Brewery's Post Road Pumpkin Ale or Shipyard's SMASHED pumpkin. Both are great beers.

Oh believe me, I'll be singing that chant with all my heart. Windows down on the highway. I love having seasons in Minnesota, and snow is OK, but -20° windchill is NOT.
I'll also be cheering for you for your first marathon!!! Congratulations on all the training you've put in to get to this point!
You are going to have such a great first marathon- and don't forget- automatic PR :)
Sorry I am late to the party, but GOOD LUCK!!!!
