A week in review and Giveaway Winner!

Training:
*  Overall, my first week of IM training went great!  Woohoo!  I modified the running a little bit b/c I'm just getting back into it after my IT band injury, and I didn't want to overdo it.  BUT, I think next week I'll be able to get it all done. :)
Where my BRICK happened!  I would have liked to have done it outside, but this worked just fine. And, yes, I did the run in my VFFs and loved it.
*  I did my first BRICK of the season yesterday! It was short, only a 30min. bike/15min. run, but it felt great!  I was actually looking forward to doing it and ended up wishing it was longer.  However, I KNOW my feelings will change when my BRICKs turn into 5hr. bike ride/2hr. runs...ha ha!
Sweaty and happy after my run! :)
*  Remember how I did a post about the awesome TRX??  Well, I found a coupon for the pro pack and kind of hinted about it to my husband and guess what?  He decided to get it for me as an early b-day present (my b-day is in June)!  Woohoo!  Well, guess what came in the mail on Friday??
I am so excited to get this thing set up!  The only problem is deciding where to put it.  I can't anchor it to any structure since we're moving, but I do have the door anchor, so I just need to find the perfect spot!  Yay!!!

Other Things Too:
*  GIVEAWAY WINNER:  I had 52 entries for the giveaway!  Based on random.org, the winner of the earphones is.... Kathy from lettlingtales!!!  Kathy, send me an email with your address and I'll forward it on to auria so you can get your set of earphones! :)

*  So, it's official, we are moving into an apartment.  We just haven't found our "dream house" yet, and although it's not an ideal situation, I know it will be fine.  I found some free moving boxes off of Craigslist and have been packing up like crazy.  At first I got a little emotional about the whole thing and ended up calling my mom, bawling.  It hit me that we are actually leaving our first home...the home where both of my boys grew up.  It just made me really sad.  But, I know we are doing the right thing for our boys by moving.  I also know that wherever we end up, we will make a new home filled with love and happiness, just like we have now.

*  Is it really May 1st??  WOW...where did the time go?  Time is flying by!

*  I hope you all have a great weekend!  :)

Auria Exceed Earphones Review and GIVEAWAY!!

Auria Exceed Earphones
A while back I was asked if I wanted to try out and review a pair of Exceed Earphones.  Of course I said YES!

Here is what the website at auria.com [HERE] says about the Exceed Earphones:
Experience an exciting new level of comfort from our XFit system. Run, hike, bike or walk with the confidence that your earphones will remain in place.
Control volume with a mere finger touch to the stylized InLine control. Use the function button to control audio/video and answer/end calls. Take advantage of the integrated Microphone to make calls on iPhone 4/3GS/3G, Blackberry and Android phones.
Two sets of swappable Personalizers are included : a color-matched, painted set and a hand-picked graphical set.
The super-soft, black mesh carrying case is sized to hold most smartphones (including iPhone 4/3G/3GS and Blackberry models), Exceed earphones and accessories.
When I got them in the mail, I pulled out all the stuff and laid it out on my desk.  Here's what the package came with.

* Earphones
*  Mesh bag
*  Different sizes of ECO (Ear Canal Opening) rings to help you achieve the perfect fit
*  A set of graphic Personalizers that you can swap out to add some fun to the earphones.

The ECO rings are pretty cool and have little circles on them to indicate the different sizes.  I found them to be really easy to switch out.  But, I actually found that the ones that were originally on the earphones worked the best for me.

Another interesting feature is the InLine control button.  While I think it's a great idea in theory, I am used to just hitting the buttons on my shuffle and found myself not really using the button.  However, I can see how it would be a nice feature if you used it with your phone.

Now, you all know that I'm not up to running long distances (YET), but I was able to try these out in several runs ranging from 30-45minutes.  The first thing I did was switch out the Personalizers.  I thought the running girl image was a lot more fun than solid black.  Don't you think?

So, how did they work??
I thought they were awesome!  They are really easy to insert and did not move during my entire run.  Because they are quite bigger than my other earphones I thought they would feel heavy, but they didn't.  In fact, they are light weight and after awhile I didn't even feel them in my ears.

Another nice thing about these earphones is that they allow you to hear the ambient noise around you, which is a must for anyone running by themselves.  What I liked was that I was able to run on my treadmill in my workout room and still hear my boys playing in the other room. :)

So, if you think you might want to try these earphones, you're in luck!  The awesome people of Auria were kind enough to offer a free pair to one of you!  Woohoo!

Here's what you need to do:
* Please leave a separate comment for each entry.
1.  Be a follower. Or, let me know if you already are. :)
2.  Tell me your favorite running song.

The contest will run until April 30th.  I will announce the winner on May 1st!  Good luck!!

RoadID Giveaway!

RoadID Giveaway!!
Do you like my Christmas color theme?  Yes, I'm a dork! :)

For those of you that read my last post, you know that I won an awesome Outside PR gift bucket from Tall Mom on the Run!  One of the items in the bucket was a RoadID gift certificate.  My husband and I took advantage of the sale RoadID was having at the beginning of the month and we both ended up getting a wrist ID.  Since we don't really need two IDs, I contacted Scott at Outside PR and asked him if I could "pay it forward" and give the RoadID gift certificate away!  Needless to say, he said, "Yes!"  So, one lucky reader will be able to get a RoadID for themselves, or give one as an awesome Christmas gift!  :)

Because the last day to order a RoadID and get it by Christmas is Dec. 14th, this will be a fast giveaway.  The contest will end on Thursday, Dec. 9th, and I will announce the winner Friday.

Here's how to win!
Please leave a SEPARATE comment for each entry! :)

1.  Be a follower of my blog, or if you already are let me know! :)

2.  Go to RoadID [HERE] and tell me what you would get if you won.

4.  Enter RoadID's Holiday Giveaway [HERE] by following on Facebook or twitter.

FOR AN EXTRA ENTRY!!
5.  Donate $5 (or more) to a RoadID supported charity [HERE] and let me know what charity you donated to.

Good luck everyone!!!  :)

A week in review and other things too

Training:
*  Training for this week can pretty much be summed up by one word: BLAH!  Ever since my 18miler turned 14miler last weekend, I have just been in a weird funk.  I don't know what it is, but it needs to stop NOW!  I guess it didn't help that my husband was sick with a 24hr. stomach bug and my youngest is having night terrors.  The lack of sleep is definitely playing a toll.

*  I missed my yoga class this week too...:(

*  I downloaded a winter tri maintenance plan from beginnertriathlete.com and am thinking about starting it up in the next 2 weeks.  This might sound crazy, but I think my blahness (not a real word, but it should be!) is because I'm tired of JUST running.  I miss riding my bike and swimming.  It may sound crazy, but I actually like looking at my calendar and seeing a nice mix of swims, bike rides, and runs to do!  I'm not sure how it will play into my marathon training, but I guess I'll find out pretty soon.

Other things too:

*Trish at My Path to Travel left me a comment directing me to this site and I thought I'd pass it along:  http://ironbandmusic.com/emails/120110.htm.  I'm sure you all know the story of Jon "Blazeman" Blias.  Well, music and triathlon recently came together to raise more money for the Blazeman Foundation to fight the war on ALS.  All you have to do is go to iTunes, buy the tunes, and 100% of the proceeds will go to help fight ALS.  Pretty cool huh?
Here are links from iTunes:
*Blazeman Band - Ironman Blazeman [HERE]
*Ironband - Please, Please, Santa [HERE]

You can also check out this video [HERE] of the "Iron Blazeman" song video featuring some great musicians and pros.  I have to admit it was pretty crazy to see Chrissy Wellington and Matty Reed singing. :)

*  I won an Outside PR bucket full of goodies from Tall Mom on the Run and it came in the mail today!  All I can say is WOW!  There were so many cool things in the bucket!  Check out all the goodies!
I am so excited to try these things out!
Oh, and I have some good news!  One of the items you see in the picture will be featured in a special giveaway!  Details coming soon!  Woohoo! :)

*  So, Hammer nutrition [HERE] is having an awesome sale right now.  All of their fuel and supplements are 20% off from now until Dec. 17th.  My husband and I love Hammer gel, so we decided to take advantage of their awesome prices and stock up.  Well, our order arrived today and I was shocked to find tons of extra things inside!
Hammer rocks!  The boxes and big gel container is what we ordered, everything else were free goodies!  I have been reading a lot of great things about Perpetuem and Heed, so I am really excited about trying them out in my training.  Plus, now that IMAZ is right around the corner (well, really 11 months away..he he), I need to figure out what my nutrition will be come race day (yes, I am already stressing about it!).

source
*  Is it really already Dec. 3rd???  That is crazy!  That means we only have 22 days until Christmas!  Wow!  I think we're going to get our Christmas tree this weekend.  Yay!

I hope you all have a great weekend!  :)

November 20, 2010

A week in review, other things too, and Holiday cards!

Training:
*  Going to Arizona kind of put a wrench in my marathon training, but it was definitely worth it!  I got to do the Muddy Buddy with my sister and go on some nice runs with my husband while the grandparents watched our boys.  It was awesome!  Ahhh...yay for grandparents! :)
Me and my husband after the run

*  One day during our trip, my husband, sister, and I all decided to do a trail run together.  We found a trail system not too far from my parent's house, and headed out.  It was beautiful outside and the trails were awesome.  We did end up getting lost a couple of times and having to back track, but that was all part of the adventure!  All in all, we ended up running 10 miles.  I had an absolute blast, and was ready to buy a pair of trail running shoes that day! :)

me and my sister sporting our Nathan waist belts! :)
Obviously, racing flats are NOT the best shoes to wear trail running.  Ha ha.  Unfortunately, they were the only shoes that I brought on the trip or I wouldn't have worn them.

See how the rubber came up on the bottom??  Good thing I brought my old, wear around the house, pair and not my good ones!

*  A couple fellow bloggers, gave me the heads up about the Denver Marathon that I ran.  Apparently, the course was too long!!  I knew my Garmin couldn't have been that far off!!  The article is HERE if any of you want to read about it.  The good thing though is that they adjusted our times.  So....drum roll....my new time is...3:59:29!!  I ran a sub 4hr. marathon!!  Woohoo!!
Too bad I had my medal engraved (they were offering it for free at my local running store):

Other Things Too:
*  I was so excited to get two packages in the mail this week!

Awesome socks from Kovas at Midwest Multisport Life.  I haven't had a chance to run in these yet, but I put them on and they are sooo comfortable!  I'm excited to wear them on my next run!  Thanks Kovas!

The other was some nutrition treats from Kevin at Half Tri-ing.  Yay!  Thanks Kevin!

* Christmas Cards
Shutterfly
We all know that the holiday season is here.  I cannot believe it's the middle of November already!  Where did the time go?  I have been going through all of my pictures looking for the perfect ones to put on our Christmas card this year.  I love making and sending out Christmas cards.  I also love getting holiday cards.  I usually let my boys open up the envelopes and tape them on our office doors.  It's our way of creating a big cheerful display of cards throughout the holiday season!

This year I've decided to use Shutterfly to make my cards.  Their site is one of the most user friendly sites I've used for making cards, invitations, and photo books.  In fact, when my oldest turned 3, I made him an ABC Photo Book that turned out amazing!

Isn't it awesome?? :)
I'm actually in the process of making my youngest son's ABC book right now.

Shutterfly has some of the best and cutest designs for photo cards that I've seen.  And, I love how you can put multiple photos on the cards and personalize it for your family.  Using Shutterfly is an easy, fun, and fast way to make your holiday cards this year.  So, if you haven't started making your holiday cards yet, go check them out!  I'm sure you will love what you see! :)

Honestly, I was going to use Shutterfly for my cards this year anyway, but they are running an awesome promotion for bloggers.  Check it out HERE!

Favorite Things Giveaway-Part 2!

Favorite Things Giveaway!
Woohoo!  I finally got all the stuff together for the giveaway I've been talking about!  Like my first giveaway, I decided to focus on my favorite things.  This time however, since it's the off-season (for most of us) for triathlons, I wanted to do some of my favorite things for running, and some other fun things mixed in.  None of this stuff was donated, so I guess it's kind of a "pay-it-forward" giveaway.  So, I hope you like what I've got for you! :)

Here's what you'll get if you win:
1.  1 pair of black reflective Yankz!  I love my yankz and have them on pretty much every athletic shoe I own.  Now that the days are getting shorter, reflective gear is a must.  So, I thought I'd give away a reflective pair for that extra bit of visibility.

2.  A CD of some of my favorite running/workout songs.  I have over 5hrs. of songs on my Ipod playlist, but unfortunately they wouldn't all fit on one CD.  But, you'll get 22 songs (about 80min.) of music to help get you through those long, or short, runs! :)

3.  1 Hammer gel, 1 Gu Roctane, 1 packet of Clif Shot Bloks, and 1 packet of Sport Beans

4.  One container of Kola NUUN.  I use NUUN on every run/bike ride over an hour and absolutely love it!

5.  1 tube of Yelpstick - This lip balm is awesome.  It has an SPF 15 and has a nice scent to it.  I don't know about you, but my lips get really dry and cracked over the winter months.  This lip balm really helps keep them smooth.

6.  I tube of Aquaphor - If you've never tried Aquaphor, you're missing out!  This stuff is great for cuts, blisters, chaffing, dry/cracked areas, and much more.  Although I've heard you can use it for your "sensitive" areas when you're on the bike, I haven't gotten the chance to try it out yet.   But, we have used it for our son's diaper rash, and it worked great!

7.  1 "run." sticker

8.  2 tattoos - 1 for beginnertriathlete.com (best site ever!) and 1 RMAO (Run My A** Off) Saucony tattoo

9.  1 awesome metal hook - The last thing is, in my opinion, something unique and really cool.  My brother-n-law makes amazing things using recycled metal and other materials.  I am giving away one of his hooks that he made.  I loved the design on it because it reminded me of a running path.  The hook is called "Ungawa," and the tag reads:  Ungawa looks after you, your keys, your jewelry, or just about anything that hangs.  I know this isn't exactly "running" related, but you could definitely use the hook to hang your workout bag, race medals, clothing, etc.
He has an Etsy shop {HERE} that you should check out if you get the chance.  He sells a lot of unique things that would make great gifts for Christmas, or any time.  Oh, and the bottle openers are awesome.  We own 3 of them ourselves..ha ha! :)

Here's how to win:
**  Please leave a SEPARATE comment for each one.**

1.  Follow my blog, or if you are already a follower, let me know! :)

2.  If you were one of the first 206 followers (through the "follow" button on blogger, not Google reader) let me know because you get an extra entry! :)

3.  Tell me what one of your favorite running items is!

** The contest will run until Tuesday, Nov. 16th.  I will announce the winner on Wed., Nov. 17th! **

Humpastry Day - Apple Chips and the Giveaway Winner!

Apple Chips:
I was at Costco the other day and saw a huge bag of dried apple chips for sale.  It got be thinking about how I could probably make them myself, so when I came home I decided to try.  I can not believe how easy it was!  Because I don't have a mandolin, I had a hard time getting my apple slices thin enough, so some of them turned out chewier than others.  That being said however, they all turned out really good!  My family gobbled up all of the slices for an after dinner treat.  Literally, they were all gone within 15 minutes! :)

Ingredients:
Makes 4 cups
*  4 apples **Note:  I used Braeburn apples, but I'm sure you could use any variety
*  2Tbl. sugar
*  1/8tsp. cinnamon

Directions:
1.  Preheat oven to 225 degrees.
2.  Mix the sugar and cinnamon together and set aside.
3.  Slice the apples crosswise into 1/8" thick rounds.
4.  Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper (or a silpat).
5.  Arrange the apples on the baking sheets and sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture on top of them.
6.  Bake for 1 hour.
7.  Peel the apples off of the parchment paper, then return them to the paper.
8.  Continue baking until golden crisp, about 30 minutes more.  **Note:  It took longer than 30min. for some of the apples to crisp up because they were thicker than 1/8".  However, the chewy ones were actually really good too.  So, if you want more of a chewy dried fruit consistency, you could probably cut the bake time down.
9.  Remove from the sheet, let cool, and gobble them up!  Or, store in an airtight container for up to 5 days!

Now, for the CSN Giveaway Winner!!!

Thanks to random.org,, the lucky winner is:

Amber at Almost Vegan!!

Congrats Amber!  Email me your address and I'll send it to the wonderful people of CSN!

A week in review and other things too

Training:
*  This has been an interesting week because I have the Iron Girl Sprint Tri tomorrow and I wasn't sure what to do in terms of marathon training.  I'm really just doing the tri for fun, but I definitely didn't want to run tons of miles and not even be able to perform well in the tri.  So, I did a long run at the beginning of the week and a shorter run yesterday.  I had the awesome 1hr. bike ride on Wednesday, and even managed to get in some nice, easy swims at the gym.

*  I'm really excited about the tri tomorrow.   But, what I'm not too excited about is having to get up at 4am in order to make it to Boulder (~1hr. drive) to do the whole packet pick-up thing before heading to the transition area.  It should be an interesting drive.  I really hope I don't fall asleep!

* I did my yoga class yesterday and let's just say that it totally kicked my ass!  I am actually sore today from it in places that I haven't been sore in a long time.  What is it about yoga poses that really effect those tiny muscle areas?  Hopefully I won't still be sore for my race tomorrow!

* So, I am happy to say that I have made it to running 2 miles in my Vibrams and it felt great!  I wanted to run longer, but held back because of my race.  I can't wait to do a post on them, but I am waiting until I get a little bit more mileage out of them.  There's a race coming up in Sept. called the Naked Foot 5k.  It is the first ever barefoot running race in CO and I totally want to do it in my Vibrams!  Plus, they are helping Souls4Soles, which is just a great organization.

Other things too:

*  Patrick at The Road (A Multi-sport Blog) came up with a great idea for an Olympic tri virtual race!  I am so excited about it!  Check out the link above for more information about it!

*  After I picked up my older son from Kindergarten yesterday he told me he drew a picture of me in art class.  This is what he drew:

I don't really have red hair or green pants/shoes, but I love it just the same! :)

*  Just an FYI:  REI is having their Labor Day sale and clearance event and they have NUUN on sale.  I totally stocked up!  Oh, and I may or may not have bought some other totally unnecessary things while I was there too! :)

*  So, I am totally addicted to Bonktown.com.  There are some sweet deals on there sometimes!  Check out what I picked up for $12!
That's right, a super cute, awesome pair of Ryders Adrenaline sunglasses!  Woohoo! :)

*  And, just for fun I have to mention this great gadget I picked up at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.  It is called The Cherry Chomper and it is perfect for pitting cherries (or olives!).  My boys love it and are able to use it by themselves!  All you do is put the cherry in the "mouth," push down on the head, and the pit falls into the clear container.  It ROCKS!  Seriously, I don't know how I managed without it! :)

* Don't forget to enter my giveaway for a chance to win a $40 gift certificate to CSN!  Woohoo!  I have to say though that I am blown away by the number of you that do not have a foam roller yet.  I really thought I was one of the last few without one!

I hope you all have a great weekend!  See you Sunday for my race report! :)

A week in review and Giveaway Winner!

Wow!  I cannot believe how many responses I got for my giveaway!  I really enjoyed reading all of your favorite sources of nutrition while training and will probably end up giving some of them a try!  I know you are all anxious to hear who won my favorite things giveaway.  But, you're just going to have to wait until the end of the post.  If you're impatient, go ahead and scroll down to the bottom! :)

Training week in review:
source
*  I finally got to participate in the Aquaman swim race Tuesday night and I just have to say that it was awesome!  I did the 1M swim race which consisted of two 750m loops.  After each loop, you have to come out of the water, run on the "beach" for a short distance, then hop back into the water.  It's pretty shallow as you come into the beach area, so really you end up running in the water both ways.  I did the 1M swim (with the running) in 31 minutes!  Yay!  Again, I know it's not fast for some of you, but for me it was!  I was so excited and am now super pumped for my race next Sunday!  I now have a successful feeling to hold onto and will be using this feeling to hopefully keep me calm and panic free for the 1.2M swim.   :)

*  Since I'm in my taper week, my workouts have been pretty light.  I've gotten some good runs in and some really nice bike rides done outside after we put the boys down to bed.  It's been nice to have a lower workout load because I've had more time to sleep, play with my boys, and get some things done around the house.  But, there's a part of me that's still wondering if I've done enough.  I can only hope that I have.

*  I'm still trying to figure out what I want to bring with me for hydration on the bike for my HIM.  I know it's going to be hot (unless Mother Nature wants to give us a break!), so I'm a little worried about the heat because I sweat a lot!  Usually after my race or long runs/bike rides I have white salt crystals all over me.  So, I'm shooting for some bottles with NUUN in them and a bottle with a gatorade/water mix.  Hopefully it will be enough!
Other Things Too:
*  My in-laws are coming in town for a short visit on Saturday.  They'll be staying with us for about 4 days, and then heading up to Frisco to visit their daughter and son-in-law.  They might be able to come and watch part of my race, which would be nice.  I think I could use all the cheering, cow-bell ringing, and good wishes I can get!

*  My son had his 5yr. check-up today.  He got 4 shots!  He was so brave and tried to fight back the tears, but they came with the last shot.  It really pulled on my heart strings.  Poor little guy!  The good news is that he won't have to get any more shots until he's 11!  He was pretty happy about that! :)

*  I was at Costco the other day and I came across these chips.
They are so good and have pretty good ingredients as far as chips go.  They have a nice flavor and are the perfect saltiness.  I know a lot of you are eating Gluten free these days.  So, if you're looking for a snack, try these out!

* Usually, I glance through magazines while I'm in line at the grocery store, but rarely do I ever buy them.  Well, I saw an issue of Vegetarian Times and saw some recipes that looked really good.  So, I bit the bullet and bought an issue.  I tried out some of the recipes and they are actually really good!  I was pleasantly surprised!  Now I have to decide if I want to get a subscription or not.  Because we cook most of our meals at home, I'm always looking for new and different recipes, and this may be just what I need!

Giveaway Winner!
The winner of my favorite things giveaway via Random.org was comment #3 (I know, it's never a low number)!  So, the winner is Regina at Chiu on This.  Congrats Regina!  Send me an email at trirunveg@gmail.com with your address and I'll get it shipped to you shortly!

Favorite Things Giveaway!

My First Giveaway!!!
Wow!  I cannot believe that I have over 100 followers!  When I first started this blog, I didn't think anyone would really want to read what I had to say.  It was just a way for me to put my thoughts down on "paper."  I hoped that what I was writing would appeal to someone, but I never imagined it would take on the form that it has.  I have learned so much from so many of you.  You have given me advice and encouragement that I could not have gotten anywhere else.  And for that I thank you.
So, without further ado, I give you my first giveaway!  Since I'm not sponsored by anyone or given free stuff from different companies (although if there are any companies out there that want me to try out and review their things I'd be happy to!) I thought my giveaway should be some of my favorite training things.

Here's what you'll get if you win!

*  1-24oz Camelbak Podium Bottle (This has got to be one of the best water bottles I have ever used!  It doesn't leak and is super easy to drink from while biking or running!)

*  1 container of Lemon-Lime NUUN (This is great because it "turns water into a refreshing, sugar-free solution that keeps you optimally hydrated wherever you are."  And, it's awesome!)

* 1  package of Fig Newtons (one of my favorite things to eat on long bike rides)

*  1 Clif Bar (I don't eat a lot of these, but I like to use them on my long bike rides.  I cut it into 6 bite-size pieces and stick them in my bento box with a mix of other things.)

*  2 packs of Margarita flavored Clif Shot Bloks (I sweat a lot and these are great to eat on the bike and run when it's super hot because they have an extra dose of sodium)

*  2 packs of Sport Beans (I like to put these in my bento box with a mix of Clif bar pieces, fig newtons, and shot bloks.  I like to have a variety and sometimes these give me the sweetness I crave.  These are also super easy to eat on the run.)

*  1 Tri-Berry Gu (This is sooo yummy!)

*  1 Bora Bora bar (I like to eat one of these before my morning swims.)

*  1 trial size tube of Aquaphor.  (This stuff is great for just about everything from sores to dry lips)

*  2 Stay Put hair bands (I wear these every time I go for a run or bike ride.  They keep my hair in place!  For the guys out there, just give these to your girlfriend or SO and they'll love them!)

*  1 pack of Orbitz gum.  (I threw this in there just because it's one of my favorite gums)

*  1 Erin Baker's breakfast cookie (O-kay, I know I don't use these for training, but I won so many of them that I thought I would share the love!)
